Gentle care for families after a lossIn-Home Death Blood Cleanup
When a loved one passes away at home, whether under hospice care or unexpectedly, there may be blood or bodily fluids left behind on the bed, the floor or a favorite chair. We clean with tenderness and care, so your family can grieve without facing that task.
- Hospice and natural deaths
- Beds, chairs and floors
- Keepsakes treated with care
- Work while you are away
What is in-home death cleanup?
In-home death cleanup is the careful removal of blood and bodily fluids left after a person dies at home. Trained technicians in protective gear clean and disinfect beds, furniture, floors and nearby surfaces, remove items that cannot be made safe with the family's permission, and send contaminated waste for medical waste disposal.
Something families are rarely told
Even a peaceful death can leave fluids behind. As the body changes after death, blood and other fluids may be released onto bedding, a recliner or the floor. Hospice nurses and funeral directors do wonderful work, but cleaning the room is usually left to the family.
Many families do not realize this until they are standing in the room. You do not have to do it. We come quietly, clean with respect for your loved one and their belongings, and leave the room so you can sit in it again when you are ready.
Situations we help families with
- A death under hospice care with fluids on the bed
- A natural death in a recliner or favorite chair
- A loved one found on the floor after passing
- A death that was not discovered right away
- Fluids that reached carpet, pad or flooring
- A home being prepared for relatives or a sale
Why families should not have to do this
Grief is heavy enough. The cleanup carries its own risks too.
Lasting memories
Cleaning the place where a loved one passed can leave painful images that are hard to set down.
Fluids that soak in
Mattresses, upholstery and carpet pad absorb fluids deep inside, beyond what household cleaning can reach.
Health exposure
Blood and bodily fluids can carry bloodborne pathogens and bacteria, regardless of the cause of death.
Odor that returns
Fluids left in hidden places break down over time and bring odor back, often weeks later.
How we care for the room
Slow, careful and guided by your wishes.
We listen first
We ask what matters to you, which items to protect and whether you prefer to be there or away.
Protect belongings
Photos, papers, jewelry and keepsakes near the area are set aside carefully before cleaning begins.
Gentle cleaning
We remove blood and fluids from every affected surface, and discard soaked items only with your permission.
- Mattress and bedding
- Recliner or chair
- Carpet and pad beneath
Disinfect and freshen
Surfaces are treated with hospital-grade disinfectant, checked with detection tools and odor is addressed at its source.
Disposal and papers
Waste goes out for medical waste disposal, and you receive photos and an itemized report if you plan to file a claim.

In-home death cleanup for Nashville families
Many people choose to spend their final days at home, surrounded by familiar things. That is a gift. Afterward, though, the bed or chair where they rested may need more than a change of sheets. We understand that these are cherished pieces, and we treat them that way.
We will always tell you honestly whether an item can be cleaned. A hospital bed frame and many hard surfaces clean well. A mattress or heavily soaked recliner usually cannot be made safe inside. Nothing leaves the home without your say.
We serve families in Nashville and Davidson County and throughout Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Sumner, Robertson and Cheatham counties. Homeowner's insurance sometimes covers this cleanup, and we provide the paperwork either way.

Questions families ask after a death at home
Gentle answers for a hard time. More on our questions page.
Talk with us nowDoesn't the funeral home or hospice clean up?
They care for your loved one, but cleaning the home is usually left to the family. That is where we come in.
Can the mattress be saved?
If fluids reached the inside of the mattress, it usually cannot be made safe. We will look and tell you honestly.
Can you keep my loved one's belongings safe?
Yes. We set aside personal items before we begin and clean salvageable things whenever it is safe.
Do I need to be home?
No. Many families prefer to be elsewhere. We can arrange access and call you when we are finished.
What if the death was not discovered for a while?
We handle those situations too, including deeper fluid removal and odor treatment. Please call and we will explain.
Does insurance help with the cost?
Sometimes. Homeowner's policies vary. We provide photos and an itemized report if you choose to file.
