Cannon County, TN Biohazard Cleanup Coverage

Cannon County is southeast of Nashville, past Murfreesboro, and it's the smallest county by population that we serve. We cover all of it: Woodbury, the county seat, Auburntown in the north, and the rural hollows and ridges around them. We don't keep anyone stationed in the county. Our Nashville team makes the drive.

Fewer than 16,000 people live here, mostly in their own homes on rural land. This page explains how that shapes a cleanup, the agencies usually involved first, and how to reach us.

Woodbury, Auburntown and the hill country

Woodbury is the county seat and the center of most activity, with a courthouse square, older homes and local businesses. Auburntown is a small town in the north of the county. Everything else is unincorporated, including communities like Readyville, Bradyville, Gassaway and Short Mountain. Short Mountain State Natural Area and the Headwaters Wildlife Management Area give the eastern part of the county a hilly, wooded character.

Census estimates put the 2025 population at 15,296. In a county this size, homes are spread out and drives can be long. Some addresses sit on narrow roads that climb into the hills, where a work vehicle needs room to park and turn. If you know of a tight spot on the way in, tell us.

Getting here from Nashville

The usual route runs through Rutherford County and then east on state highways into Cannon County. That makes Woodbury one of the longer trips in our area, and outlying communities add more time. We confirm timing with you by phone instead of quoting an arrival time. For people in western Cannon County close to the line, our Rutherford County page and Murfreesboro page describe the neighboring area we also cover.

Homes, outbuildings and what they're made of

Census figures for 2020 to 2024 show about 78 percent of homes are owner-occupied. Many are older farmhouses and manufactured homes, often with barns, sheds or a detached shop. These details change what the job looks like:

  • Plank floors and crawl spaces in older houses can let fluid reach joists or the ground below, so we check underneath.
  • Particleboard floors in many manufactured homes absorb quickly and often need removal.
  • Bare wood and concrete in barns and shops absorb more than sealed indoor surfaces.
  • Wells and septic affect how we plan for wastewater.

Our page on carpet and subfloor cleanup goes into more detail on flooring decisions.

The kinds of calls we get

Most calls from a rural county like this involve a home, and many follow the death of someone who lived alone. Others follow a serious injury, an accident in a shop or barn, or a violent incident. Occasionally a small business in Woodbury needs a restroom, office or vehicle cleaned. The process is the same whatever happened, but the right service page can help you know what to expect:

The sheriff's office and the medical examiner

Outside town limits, the Cannon County Sheriff's Office is generally the law enforcement agency that responds. For a death that's sudden or unexplained, the county medical examiner investigates. Any forensic autopsy takes place at one of Tennessee's regional forensic centers and isn't billed to the family. Final reports often take around 10 to 12 weeks, but you don't need one to arrange cleanup. You do need the property released.

Working discreetly in a close-knit place

In a county this small, people know each other, and families often worry about attention. We keep the affected area closed during work, carry materials out sealed, and don't talk about your situation with anyone you haven't authorized. If you'd like a particular parking spot or arrival time, tell us when we schedule. We can also leave the house closed up and secure when we finish, and walk you through what was done by phone if you'd rather not come back right away. We also understand that the person calling may be a neighbor, a church member or a distant relative trying to help. We'll explain who needs to authorize the work and how to involve them.

Getting help

  1. Confirm the release

Ask the deputy or investigator whether the home or building has been released.

  2. Call (615) 513-5112

Any hour. Give us the address or nearest crossroads and tell us who has authority over the property.

  3. Assessment and written scope

We assess on site and give you a scope before anything is removed.

  4. Work and records

We remove, clean and disinfect, then give you photos and an itemized invoice.

If it's easier, start through Order Online. Its $2,000 initial deposit is not the final price and doesn't set a start time.

Questions people ask

Is Cannon County really in your area? It feels far from Nashville.

Yes. Cannon County is one of the 15 counties we cover. It's a longer drive, so we're careful to be realistic about timing when we talk.

I'm a neighbor trying to help an elderly family. Can I call for them?

You can call to ask questions. The owner, or someone with legal authority over the property, will need to approve the written scope. We can talk with them directly or through you, whichever is easier for the family.

Our home is a manufactured home. Will the floor have to come out?

Not always, but it's common when fluids reached the floor decking. We'll show you what we find and explain what has to be removed before anything is done.

Is there anything I should do about odor while I wait?

Keep the door to the affected area closed and avoid pushing air from that room through the house. Don't use air fresheners or ozone devices to cover it. Our guide to odor concerns explains why removing the source matters.

If a crime happened at home, is there help with the cost?

Tennessee's Criminal Injuries Compensation program can pay up to $3,000 for cleaning and removal of materials when the crime happened in the victim's home or an eligible relative's home. Deadlines and conditions apply, so check the Treasury program page.
