Biohazard and Crime Scene Cleanup in Lafayette, TN
Lafayette is the seat of Macon County and one of the farthest towns we cover. We do serve it. Our crew travels from Nashville for cleanup after deaths, injuries and crimes that leave blood or bodily fluids in homes, rental units, businesses and vehicles, once the property has been released.
Because of the distance, we'd rather set honest expectations than make promises. Here is how we plan a Lafayette job, what's typical about housing in town, and what you can do safely in the meantime.

Being honest about the distance
Lafayette sits northeast of Nashville, well beyond the suburbs, and the drive is a long one. A trip there is a commitment of most of a day for our crew, so we plan it carefully. When you call, we'll explain where our schedule stands and what a realistic visit could look like. We'd rather give you a plain answer than a time we might miss.
Some things make a long-distance job go smoother:
- One family member or manager who can make decisions and approve the scope
- A clear plan for access: a key, a lockbox code, or someone meeting us
- A rough description of the rooms and materials involved, so we bring what's needed
- Confirmation that police and the medical examiner have released the property
A town where most homes are rented
Lafayette is unusual among the towns we cover: according to Census QuickFacts, just under half of occupied homes are owner-occupied, so slightly more than half are rented (ACS 2020–2024). Across Macon County, by contrast, about 74 percent are owner-occupied. Median gross rent in town is about $900 a month.
That means a good share of Lafayette calls come from landlords and property managers, and from tenants' families. Our rental property suicide cleanup, rental property biohazard cleanup and property manager pages explain how we handle authorization, belongings and documentation in rentals.
Larger households and shared homes
Households in Lafayette average about 2.9 people, so incidents often affect several family members living under one roof. Keeping everyone, including children and pets, out of the affected area until we arrive is the most important thing you can do. If possible, have them stay with relatives nearby. Please don't try to clean up yourself; our guide on the limits of household cleaning explains why.
Businesses and offices in the county seat
As Macon County's seat, Lafayette has county offices, shops and service businesses that the public walks into each day. If an injury, assault or death happens on a business property, the owner usually needs the affected area closed, staff kept away, and a plan for reopening. Employers whose workers have occupational exposure to blood are covered by OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standard, which is one reason untrained staff shouldn't be asked to clean it up. See commercial biohazard cleanup for how we work around a business.
What we do once we arrive
We walk the property with you or your representative, write up a scope, and start only after it's approved. We remove contaminated porous items such as carpet, pad, mattresses and sections of drywall, then clean and disinfect the remaining surfaces. Waste is packaged and disposed of in line with applicable Tennessee and federal requirements. You receive photos and an itemized invoice to share with an insurer if you have one.
For deaths that weren't discovered right away, the extended discovery page describes the added steps.
The medical examiner and what comes after
In Tennessee, sudden, unexpected and traumatic deaths are investigated by the county medical examiner. When a forensic autopsy is ordered, it's done at a regional forensic center and isn't billed to the family, and the report usually takes about 10 to 12 weeks. The cleanup doesn't have to wait for the report. Once police and the medical examiner have released the home, you can schedule with us.
Insurance, deposits and paperwork
Some property insurance policies may cover some of this work, but that's entirely up to the policy and the insurer. Landlords should check their own policy; tenants' families may want to check a renters policy for personal belongings. We provide a written scope, photos and an itemized invoice for whoever is filing. The guide to how pricing works explains what goes into the number.
Red Boiling Springs and rural Macon County
All of Macon County is in our service area, including Red Boiling Springs and the farms and homes along the county's back roads. The farther out the property, the more the trip shapes the schedule, so we'll ask about road access and directions when you call. Rural addresses can be hard to find, so a landmark or a phone number for someone on site helps.
Macon County and the route from Nashville
Lafayette is covered on our Macon County page, along with Red Boiling Springs and rural areas of the county. On the way from Nashville, we also serve Gallatin and Portland, and the Trousdale County area is nearby.
Questions people ask
Do you really come out to Lafayette?
Yes. Macon County is in our service area. Because it's a long drive from Nashville, we'll talk through scheduling honestly when you call.
I own a rental in town and a tenant died. What should I do first?
Make sure police and the medical examiner have released the unit, keep it closed, and contact the tenant's family about belongings. Then call us to plan the visit. Our rental property guide covers the rest.
Can you do the whole job in one trip?
We aim to, which is why we ask detailed questions up front. Larger jobs may need more than one day; we'll tell you after the assessment.
Is there help with costs if it was a crime?
Tennessee's Criminal Injuries Compensation program may cover up to $3,000 for cleaning and removal of materials when the crime happened in the victim's or an eligible relative's home, subject to its rules. It's administered by the TN Department of Treasury.
Can I book online instead of calling?
Yes. Order Online involves a $2,000 initial deposit. It's not the final price and doesn't guarantee a start time, so we'll still call you to plan the trip.
Who answers if I call at night?
Our line is answered day and night. We can talk through next steps any time, even if the visit itself has to be scheduled for later.
Can a landlord approve the work by phone?
Yes. We can send the written scope by email for approval and coordinate access with whoever is on site.
