Safe removal and a clean bed frameBlood-Soaked Mattress Removal
A mattress that has absorbed blood cannot be made safe on the inside. We remove it carefully, dispose of it properly as medical waste, check the box spring, and clean and disinfect the bed frame, headboard and floor so the room is ready again.

- Bed frame and headboard cleaned
- Floor and walls checked
What is blood-soaked mattress removal?
Blood-soaked mattress removal is the safe removal and disposal of a mattress that has absorbed blood or bodily fluids. Technicians in protective gear wrap and seal the mattress, carry it out without contaminating the home, dispose of it as regulated medical waste, and clean and disinfect the bed frame, box spring if salvageable, and surrounding surfaces.
Why a mattress cannot be cleaned inside
A mattress is layers of foam, fiber and springs wrapped in fabric. Blood soaks through the cover and spreads into those layers, where no disinfectant can reach it. Even if the top is cleaned, the inside stays contaminated and will eventually smell.
That is why mattresses are one of the few items we almost always recommend removing after significant bleeding. The good news is that most of what surrounds the mattress, like the frame, headboard and nightstands, can usually be cleaned and kept.
When a mattress needs to go
- Heavy bleeding during an illness or medical event
- A death in bed, under hospice or otherwise
- Blood that soaked through the sheets and protector
- A mattress in a rental unit after a tenant incident
- A hotel, motel or short-term rental bed
- A mattress that has begun to smell
Why mattress removal is not a curb job
Hauling a contaminated mattress out yourself creates more risk than it seems.
Contact exposure
Lifting and carrying a soaked mattress presses blood out onto arms, clothing and walls along the way.
Disposal rules
Blood-soaked mattresses should be handled as regulated medical waste, not left for regular trash pickup.
Hidden spread
Blood often reaches the box spring, frame slats and the floor under the bed.
Privacy
A stained mattress on the curb invites questions from neighbors. We take it away quietly.
How we remove a blood-soaked mattress
Contained from the bedroom to the van.
Check the whole bed
We look at the mattress, box spring, frame, headboard, nightstands and the floor and walls around the bed.
Wrap and seal
Bedding and the mattress are bagged and sealed in heavy plastic so nothing escapes while it is moved.
Carry out carefully
We protect floors and door frames along the path and load everything into an unmarked van.
Clean what stays
Hard furniture is cleaned and disinfected so you can keep it.
- Bed frame and slats
- Headboard and footboard

Mattress removal across Nashville and Middle Tennessee
The box spring is a judgment call. If blood reached it, the fabric and wood inside usually cannot be made safe, and we recommend removing it too. If it stayed dry under a heavy mattress, it may be fine. We check before we decide, and we always ask you first.
Upholstered headboards and fabric bed frames are similar. Wood and metal frames clean well. Fabric that absorbed blood is often better replaced. We will explain each item and let you choose.
We serve homes, rentals and hotels throughout Nashville and Davidson County and in Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Sumner, Robertson and Cheatham counties. Homeowner's, renter's and commercial policies often cover removal and replacement.

Mattress removal questions
What people ask before they let us take the bed away. More on our questions page.
Talk with us nowCan I just flip the mattress or use a cover?
Covering a contaminated mattress does not make it safe. The blood inside remains and will keep breaking down.
Can a mattress cleaner fix it?
Surface cleaners can lift a stain on top, but they cannot reach blood that soaked into the foam and fibers.
Do I need to replace the box spring too?
Only if blood reached it. We check it and tell you what we find before anything is removed.
Can I keep my bed frame?
Usually yes. Wood and metal frames clean and disinfect well. Fabric frames depend on how much they absorbed.
Where does the mattress go?
It is sealed and sent out for regulated medical waste disposal, not to a regular landfill pickup.
Will insurance cover a new mattress?
Many policies do. We provide photos and an itemized report for your claim.
