Biohazard and Crime Scene Cleanup in Portland, TN
Portland sits in northern Sumner County, and the calls we get from here come from two directions: households dealing with a death or injury at home, and employers dealing with an incident at work. We clean and disinfect areas affected by blood and bodily fluids once the authorities have released the property.
Everything is scheduled from our Nashville base. This page covers workplace incidents, homes and rentals in town, and what the trip up from Nashville means for timing.

When the incident happens at work
Portland's employers range from plants and warehouses to shops and offices. An injury on a production floor, an assault in a break room or a death in a parking lot leaves an employer with two problems at once: caring for shaken employees and getting the area safely cleaned.
Employers whose workers have occupational exposure to blood are covered by the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, which requires an exposure control plan, personal protective equipment and training. Asking an untrained employee to clean a significant spill can create risk for them and for you.
What we coordinate with a site manager
- Which areas stay closed and for how long
- Equipment or machinery that needs to be cleaned or worked around
- Shift timing, so crews aren't walking through the area
- Documentation for internal records and insurers

Supporting your people afterward
The cleanup is only part of what an employer faces. Coworkers may have seen the incident or responded to it, and many will be shaken. Some practical steps can help: keep the area closed and out of sight until it's been cleaned, tell staff plainly that a professional crew is handling it, and make sure no one is assigned to tidy up the area in the meantime. If your company has an employee assistance program, this is a good time to remind people about it. We don't provide counseling, but we can keep our work out of the way of people who don't need to see it.
What to record before we arrive
A few notes made early save headaches later: when the incident happened, which areas were involved, who was present, when the area was closed off, and when police or the medical examiner released it. Photos are useful if you can take them without entering the affected area. The guide on what to document before remediation was written for property managers, but most of it applies to plant and facility managers too.
Homes and rentals in Portland
About two-thirds of occupied homes in Portland are owner-occupied, with the rest rented (ACS 2020–2024). The median owner-occupied value is about $282,200 and median gross rent is about $1,140 a month. That mix means we hear from homeowners and from landlords in roughly equal measure.
For a house, the usual concerns are flooring, furniture and what the homeowners policy might cover; our residential biohazard cleanup page goes through them. For a rental, the owner also needs to plan turnover, and the property manager page is the better place to start.
Company vehicles and parking lots
Incidents don't always happen indoors. A company truck, a forklift cab or a parked car in the employee lot can all need attention. Vehicle interiors absorb fluids much like upholstered furniture, and asphalt or concrete outdoors can need careful treatment. Our vehicle biohazard cleanup page covers what's involved.
Timing a trip north to Portland
Portland is farther out than suburbs like Goodlettsville or Hendersonville, so travel is part of every schedule we build here. When you call, we'll ask for the address, a rough sense of the affected area, and who can give us access. From that we'll give you an honest window. We don't quote arrival times we can't stand behind.
For a business, an evening or weekend start may make more sense than interrupting a shift; tell us what works and we'll see what the calendar allows.
The work itself, briefly
Every job begins with a walkthrough and a written scope. We remove contaminated porous materials, clean and disinfect surfaces, and package waste for disposal in line with applicable Tennessee and federal requirements. Tennessee classifies medical waste as a special waste, which is one reason it can't go into an ordinary dumpster. The full process from inquiry to completion is laid out in its own guide.
If it happened at home rather than at work
For Portland households dealing with a crime at home, Tennessee's Criminal Injuries Compensation program can pay up to $3,000 toward cleaning and removal of materials when the crime occurred in the victim's or an eligible relative's home. It generally requires a police report within 15 days and a claim within two years, and it pays after insurance and other sources. Our residential crime scene cleanup page has more.

Questions people ask
An employee was hurt on our floor. Can our maintenance staff clean it?
For anything more than a small spill on a hard surface, it's safer to bring in a crew trained and equipped for it. If your staff do have occupational exposure, OSHA's bloodborne pathogens rules apply.
Can you clean equipment, not just floors?
We can assess equipment surfaces and clean what's reachable. Some machinery has manufacturer requirements, so we'll talk with your maintenance lead about what's appropriate.
Will you provide paperwork for our records?
Yes: a written scope, photos and an itemized invoice. Many businesses keep these with their incident records and send them to their insurer.
How long until we can reopen the area?
That depends on the size of the area and what materials are affected. We'll give you an estimate after the walkthrough rather than guess beforehand.
Do you travel to Portland at night?
Our phone is answered day and night. Whether a crew can start at a particular hour depends on the schedule at the time, and we'll be clear about it when you call.
Does it matter that part of Portland is in Robertson County?
Not for scheduling with us. It may affect which county's officials responded, but the process on our end is the same.
