We go below the surfaceBlood Under Flooring and Subfloor
A floor can look clean on top while blood sits in the seams, under the boards and in the subfloor. We open up what needs opening, remove contaminated materials, and seal or replace the subfloor so the problem does not come back.
- Hardwood and laminate
- Tile and grout lines
- OSB and plywood sealed
- Replacement when needed
What is subfloor blood cleanup?
Subfloor blood cleanup is the removal of blood that has seeped through finished flooring into the layers below. Technicians lift or cut out affected boards, tile or laminate, clean and disinfect the subfloor, seal stained OSB or plywood or replace sections that are too saturated, and dispose of contaminated materials as regulated medical waste.
How blood gets under a floor that looks sealed
Most finished floors have gaps. Hardwood has seams between boards. Laminate and vinyl plank click together with tiny joints. Tile is surrounded by grout, which is porous. Liquid blood follows those paths down until it reaches the subfloor, usually plywood or OSB, which drinks it in.
From the top, the floor can wipe clean. Underneath, the subfloor stays stained and contaminated, and over time it may produce odor or stain the new finish from below. Treating only the surface leaves the real problem in place.
Signs blood has gone below
- Dark lines along hardwood seams after cleaning
- Laminate or vinyl plank edges that are swelling or stained
- Grout that stays discolored no matter what you use
- An odor rising from a floor that looks clean
- Blood that sat for a long time before it was found
- A large spill on any floor with joints or seams
Why below-floor blood needs real removal
Leaving it in place causes trouble long after the event.
Persistent odor
Blood in a subfloor can produce a smell that keeps coming back, especially in warm, humid Tennessee summers.
Bleed-through
Stains in wood can work their way up into new flooring or finish over time.
Bacterial growth
Moisture held in OSB or plywood supports bacteria in a space you cannot see or reach.
Structural damage
Saturated OSB can swell and weaken, which affects the floor above it.
How we clean below the floor
We open only what we need, and we show you what we find.
Inspect and test
We look at seams, edges and grout and use detection tools to map where blood went below the surface.
Open the floor
Affected flooring is lifted or cut out carefully, keeping undamaged areas intact where possible.
- Hardwood boards along the stain
- Laminate or vinyl planks
- Tile and grout in the affected area
Clean the subfloor
The exposed subfloor is cleaned and disinfected with hospital-grade products.
Seal or replace
Stained OSB or plywood is sealed with a stain- and odor-blocking primer, and saturated sections are cut out and replaced.
Verify the work
We recheck with detection tools before the area is closed back up.
Disposal and report
Waste goes out for medical waste disposal, and you receive photos of each layer and an itemized report.

Below-floor blood cleanup in Middle Tennessee
Each flooring type behaves differently. Solid hardwood can sometimes be sanded and sealed if blood only reached the top of the boards, but boards stained along their edges usually need replacing. Laminate and vinyl plank are rarely salvageable once blood gets into the joints. Tile can often stay, with grout removed and replaced.
The subfloor is where the decision matters most. Light staining in plywood or OSB can be cleaned, disinfected and sealed with a primer that blocks stains and odor. Heavily saturated or swollen sections are cut out between joists and replaced with new material.
We serve homes and businesses across Nashville, Davidson County and nearby towns like Franklin, Murfreesboro, Mt. Juliet, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Springfield, Ashland City and Kingston Springs. Homeowner's and landlord policies often cover this work.

Questions about blood under floors
What owners ask when the stain will not stay gone. More on our questions page.
Talk with us nowHow do you know blood went under the floor?
Recurring stains along seams, swelling, and odor are common signs. We confirm by lifting a section and using detection tools.
Can hardwood be sanded instead of replaced?
Sometimes, if blood stayed near the surface. If it ran down the edges of the boards, replacement is usually needed.
Do you replace the whole floor?
No. We remove the affected area. Your flooring installer can match, patch or replace the room as you prefer.
What does sealing the subfloor do?
A stain- and odor-blocking primer locks in any remaining discoloration after cleaning so it cannot rise into new flooring.
When does subfloor have to be replaced?
When OSB or plywood is saturated, swollen or soft. Sealing is not enough in those cases.
Is subfloor work covered by insurance?
Often, yes. Our layer-by-layer photos help adjusters approve the work.
